Aids needed and permitted during the exam

Aids required during the exams

The required Binas-book (containing all kind of tables) for the entrance exams on biology, chemistry and physics has an English version (Wolters-Noordhoff, Groningen, 1th print, ISBN 978 9001 70731 6). To order it outside the Netherlands it might be advisable to order it in a bookstore in your own country (using the ISBN number) as Dutch bookstores might not ship abroad. Be aware that it may take some time to arrive in your country so order it in time. (This English Binas although misleadingly called 1th print, is actually a translation of the Dutch 5th edition so don' get confused.)
There are no other German or English books containing tables allowed, only Binas is allowed.

The use of a graphing calculator is not permitted in any subject. This also applies tot graphic calculaters that have a mode to turn off the graphic possibilities. They are not allowed. However, a simple calculator with exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions may be used. These are sometimes for sale for less than 5 euros.
It goes without saying that the CCVX does not ask questions that can only be answered with the help of a graphing calculator.
You may only use one (1) calculator during the entrance examination, so no two calculators. It may be wise to take spare batteries with you.
It may seem like a superfluous remark, but still: make sure you know how to use your calculator. The same applies to the BINAS book mentioned below.

Biology (required)
- A calculator with logarithmic functions. A graphic calculator is not permitted;
- BINAS book (5th or later edition). (Alternatively, you can use the book Biodata in stead of the BINAS book).
The BINAS (or Biodata) book must NOT contain any notes. The supervisor will carry out an inspection during the exam. If it does contain notes, it will be confiscated for the duration of the exam. In addition, you risk being excluded from taking any other exams.

Chemistry (required)
- A calculator with exponential and logarithmic functions. A graphic calculator is not permitted;
- BINAS book (5th or later edition).
The BINAS (or Biodata) book must NOT contain any notes. The supervisor will carry out an inspection during the exam. If it does contain notes, it will be confiscated for the duration of the exam. In addition, you risk being excluded from taking any other exams.

Physics (required)
- A calculator with exponential, logarithmic and goniometric functions. A graphic calculator is not permitted;
- BINAS book (5th or later edition).
The BINAS (or Biodata) book must NOT contain any notes. The supervisor will carry out an inspection during the exam. If it does contain notes, it will be confiscated for the duration of the exam. In addition, you risk being excluded from taking any other exams.

Mathematics A (required)
- A calculator with exponential, logarithmic and goniometric functions. A graphic calculator and\or a calculator with the ability to calculate integrals is not permitted; a list of formulae will be provided with the exam (see syllabus preliminay exam MathA 2018/2019). Other aids, such as a formula sheet, BINAS and table book are NOT permitted.

Mathematics B (required)
- A calculator with logarithmic and goniometric functions. A graphic calculator is not permitted; a list of formulae will be provided with the exam (see syllabus preliminay exam MathB 2018/2019). Other aids, such as a formula sheet, BINAS and table book are NOT permitted.

For all subjects required
- Identity document. Your identity document will be inspected during the entrance exam. You should always be able to identify yourself with a valid identity document (passport, Dutch driving licence, Dutch identity card, EU/EEA document, residence document model 2001 types I to IV).
- Writing utensils. A pen (not a red one) and a pencil. A pencil may only be used for drawing graphs.
- A set square and protractor.
- Watch. It might be a good idea to bring a watch (no smartwatch) to be able to divide your time over the different assignments. You are not allowed to use your mobile phone as a watch.
- It may also be wise to bring spare batteries for your calculator.

Permitted for all subjects
A single-volume explanatory Dutch or English dictionary is permitted. Instead of a single-volume dictionary, you can use a bilingual dictionary from Dutch or English into another language (e.g. into the candidate's native language). A digital dictionary is not permitted.
